Casio G-Shock Bluetooth Wristwatch

Bluetooth watches are all the rage these days. The problem with most of them is that they typically require recharging every 24-72 hours. On top of that, many are not designed to handle any exposure to water or impact.

This is where G-Shock watches shine. Casio has been making G-Shock watches for decades, and I have owned many of them over the years. I have used various models of G-Shock watches while scuba diving, motorcycle riding, windsurfing, mountain biking, kayaking, roller blading, and rock climbing. Not one of them has ever been damaged from water or impact.

Casio now makes several models of Bluetooth wristwatches, including the model I have here to review, which is the G-Shock GB6900AA. I found this watch to be fairly simple to setup, easy to use and comfortable to wear. It is compatible with iOS 5.1.1 and up as well as the iPhone 4S or better. The batteries don’t need to be recharged and will last up to 2 years before needing to be replaced. It is waterproof down to 200 meters and is shock resistant.

The Bluetooth capabilities of this watch include various types of notifications such as: incoming phone calls, email for up to 5 accounts, calendar alerts, reminders, Twitter, Facebook, and Weibo. You can also simply hold down one of the watch buttons, and it will help you find your missing iPhone by remotely forcing your iPhone to play a little musical jingle. You can also use the G-Shock Bluetooth iPhone app to help you find your misplaced watch. Quite possibly the best Bluetooth feature this watch has is its “Link Loss Alert” mode. This allows you to be instantly notified on your watch if you have left your phone behind someplace such as a restaurant, in a car, or in the house. My biggest complaint with this Bluetooth watch is its lack of any form of text message notifications. I would hope Casio could easily add this capability with a simple update to the iPhone app or firmware on the watch.

If you want a Bluetooth watch that isn’t overly complex, able to survive getting beat up and submerged, with a battery that will last up to 2 years instead of one day, then a G-Shock Bluetooth watch from Casio might be just what you have been looking for.
